Hilary Duff’s Husband Mike Comrie Retires From NHL

Hilary Duff’s husband Mike Comrie has retired from his NHL career aged 31. Mike, who recently played for Pittsburgh Penguins, commented that his career has given him some amazing opportunities:

“My career has afforded me a series of phenomenal opportunities to play and become friends with some of the greatest people I have ever known and some of the greatest players who have ever played this game.”

Hilary, who is expecting the couple’s first child next month,  tweeted to followers explaining why Mike decided to retire, citing his hip surgeries as one of the main reasons:

“As many of u know mike has announced his retirement.Its a bittersweet day! He had a wonderful career! but 3 hip surgeries in 5 years is alot! 2day we are enjoying all the great memories mike had while playing in the NHL! now we have a big addition coming to our family! (sic)”

Hilary is being looked after by her husband in the last month of her pregnancy – he even took a spoon from a restaurant because she wanted ice cream. She joked via twitter:

“You know u got your self a good one when your hubby nabs a spoon from the restaurant so u can eat ice cream in the car such a bad boy! (sic)”
