There are 28 maps in development, new narrative events, and AI NPCs such as Brutes, Elites, and Grunts are currently being tested in Forge. Also in development are new weapons, vehicles, and the long-awaited cooperative PvE Firefight mode.

According to leaks, Halo Infinite will be updated with three to five new maps, a new weapon, and the Infection game mode for the upcoming Season 3 ‘Echoes Within’, which is scheduled to release early next month. Moreover, Season 3’s plot will revolve around the AI construct Iratus.

Recent massive layoffs at 343 Industries were among the many cuts made by Microsoft. There were even rumors that the Halo franchise’s future would be developed outside of Microsoft’s Redmond-based studio, but these rumors have since been debunked by Microsoft. Nonetheless, reports indicate that the studio is being completely restructured, as if it were starting from scratch. 343 Industries is also considering whether to abandon the Slipspace Engine, which was developed specifically for Halo Infinite, in favor of the Unreal Engine. Certain Affinity’s new game mode, for example, will be powered by Epic’s technology.

Although it received favorable reviews, Halo Infinite was not the commercial success that Microsoft had hoped for. Chris Wray of Wccftech gave the game an 8 out of 10 rating.
