Gabrielle Union has just wed fiancé Dwayne Wade in a ceremony held in Miami. The actress has opened up on her gorgeous wedding dress which was custom made by designer Dennis Basso. Gabrielle explains that the special dress was also a collaboration with her stylist and all three worked together to create the design, as well as another second look which she changed in to later on in the day. Gabrielle explained the process:
“Dennis, [my stylist] Jason [Bolden] and I worked together to choose the perfect fabric, silhouettes and finishing details for not just one but two gowns. The two looks are near opposites and play off one another – Dennis Basso was able to capture both my unassuming and womanly sides through his sketches.”
Dennis also spoke on creating the main dress, commenting on the craftsmanship that went in to artfully constructing the piece. He believes that the design is a perfect balance between elegant, stylish and attention-grabbing:
“We literally built the entire bodice and corset specifically for her. The entire dress is hand beaded with pearls and crystals. She wanted something that glistened without looking too ‘cha cha cha,’ still chic. The material was flown in from Italy. The skirt is perfectly draped to accent her shape and the slit gives the opportunity to show off the shoes and her great legs!”
The designer went in to great detail to make sure that the dress was perfect for the big day, taking everything in to consideration:
“She talked about Dwyane being so fashionable and really wanting to parallel that with her gown. We looked at swatches, took measurements, even considered what flowers she would carry. It was an amazing collaboration.”
