It was well known that Amy Winehouse struggled with an addiction to drugs and alcohol, but her family now fears that fighting the battle with substance abuse is what caused her death last Saturday.

Doctors had apparently advised Winehouse to gradually cut back on her heavy drinking and avoid bingeing. Instead of following their orders, she went cold turkey and stopped drinking completely for the past month. She said that when it came time to stop drinking, it was all or nothing. Sources close to her family say they believe this was a shock to her system. They even fear she suffered a seizure because her small frame could not handle the shock of a dramatic withdrawal.

“Abstinence gave her body such a fright, they thought it was eventually the cause of her death.”

Amy’s dad Mitch wanted to reveal the family’s opinion in his tribute to his daughter. He said that the shock of withdrawal combined with a “bad few years” was just too much. Doctors have even said that this is a feasible cause of death, but the official cause will not be known for weeks, when toxicology test results are revealed.
