Discovered: Love Island’s Banned Items | Thong Bikinis, Mobile Phones and Watches

Love Island contestants may be having the time of their lives trying to find love on the show, but viewers may not realize that they are subject to certain restrictions.

Love Island: List of banned items in The Villa revealed

As the show’s popularity has skyrocketed, so have the constraints placed on the show’s rising stars. Now that winter has officially arrived, let’s take a look at some of the banned items.

  • Thong bikinis

Surprisingly, the Love Island villa does not allow thong bikinis of any kind.

Jess and Eve Gale, stars of ITV’s Love Island, have previously said that the network’s executives forbade them to appear on the show in their skimpiest bikinis.

Since the villa is open to the public, inappropriate displays of affection are not tolerated.

This rule extends to the shower, where competitors are still expected to dress in their swimwear or underwear.

  • Mobile phones

Each contestant is given a phone during the show for the purposes of taking pictures and receiving the now-iconic “I’ve got a text!”, but they are not permitted to bring their own phones into the villa. Additionally, the show has announced a major change for the first time this season, stating that no one from the islanders’ immediate circles may access their phones in any way, including to read messages or post their own.

  • WiFi

There is no WiFi in the villa, which is understandable given the rules that contestants are not allowed to communicate with the outside world.

  • Books, magazines or newspapers

It’s no surprise that islanders aren’t allowed to read newspapers, magazines, or books in their free time because they have no way of communicating with the outside world. This means they must work nonstop.

  • Branded clothing

The Love Island contestants are not allowed to wear any branded apparel.

Through the show’s collaboration with eBay, island residents have had a steady supply of new garments to wear since the previous season. This means that the islanders can’t wear any of their own clothes that feature recognizable logos or slogans.

  • Watches

Most of us have never had to learn to live without a watch or clock, but the castaways on Love Island have no choice but to do just that.

Not only are watches and clocks banned from the premises, but it has also been reported that the time on the stove and the jacuzzi has been covered up as well.

Islanders of the past have claimed that the producers dictate when it is time to sleep and when it is time to wake up, forcing them to rely on the sun to determine the passage of time.

  • Unprotected sex

The administration of ITV2 is extremely stringent when it comes to the issue of safe sex. Under no circumstances are islanders to engage in unchaperoned sex within the villa’s confines.

Contestants are offered STI testing prior to entering the villa and there is an abundance of condoms in the villa with the Love Island logo on them.

  • No smoking

Due to numerous viewer complaints, the 2017 season of The Island saw significant changes made to the show’s smoking policy.

To discourage contestants from picking up smoking as a social habit, a smoking area has been set up outside the villa, with a limit of one Islander at a time.

  • Tanning products

Some people wear fake tan as a fashion accessory because it gives them a healthy glow, but the villa doesn’t allow it because of the stains it can leave on sheets.
