The Detroit Lions’ practice session on Wednesday afternoon featured many cases of restricted practice and some absences, including two prominent names: D’Andre Swift and Penei Sewell.

Limited practice: LB Derrick Barnes (knee), C Frank Ragnow (foot), DE Charles Harris (groin), WR Josh Reynolds (back).

No practice: OL Penei Sewell (personal), RB D’Andre Swift (ankle/shoulder), CB A.J. Parker (hip), OL Matt Nelson (calf), S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle), CB Chase Lucas (ankle).

Sewell played every snap in the Dolphins’ loss last week and hasn’t been listed on the injury report in recent weeks. This season, the 22-year-old has not missed a single game or offensive snap.

Nelson hasn’t practiced or played in a few weeks because of a calf injury.

Lucas has been seen walking around the practice facility in a walking boot, and Parker left last week’s game with a hip injury.

Head coach Campbell issued the following statements in response to D’Andre Swift’s case: “I do think he feels better now than he kind of was last week, so that’s a good sign. We see him working through the week, and I think he’s going to be better. But we’ll gauge that today.”

Swift has missed most of the season due to ankle and shoulder injuries. He made his first appearance since Week 3 in the team’s loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Swift rushed five times for six yards and caught five passes for 27 yards and one touchdown while playing 33 offensive snaps, a position high.

Campbell’s words on Wednesday were far more upbeat than his message about Swift the day before.

Swift was “not back,” according to the second-year head coach, who regretted his workload against the Dolphins.

On Monday, the third-year running back spoke with reporters, saying his role will expand “as I get better each day.”

“We probably gave Swift one too many carries. We love Swift. Glad he’s out there. But he’s not back. He’s given us what he has. But it’s just not, you know. And so maybe give another one of those carries to Jamaal. These are things you go through and you learn and figure out what you can do better.” Campbell said.
