Christina Aguilera Says Sorry For Anthem Fumble

Posted by PZ on February 7th, 2011

Christina Aguilera, who was invited to sing the US national anthem for the Super Bowl yesterday, had said sorry for mixing up the lyrics of the song, which she sang to open the event. Christina accidentally replaced the correct line of the song “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?” with “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming”.

Christina has released a statement to apologize, stating that she simply got caught up in the moment:

“I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

While some angered people took to Twitter to complain about the mix up, celebrities also used the social networking site to back the star up. Nicole Scherzinger wrote:

“Xtina just killed it ‘sangin’! Sounded amazing here.”

Does it really matter that she jumbled up the lines? Let us know in the comments!
