After a music editor from Minneapolis, Minnesota criticized Cee Lo’s performance in the city, the rapper took to Twitter to respond to the critic’s comment. Now, after being accused of being homophobic, he’s apologizing for the Tweet.

Andrea Swensson, the music editor, called Cee Lo’s show “lackluster” and “gross.” In response, Cee Lo tweeted,

“I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I’m guessing you’re gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f–k you!”

Soon after, he tweeted again to apologize for using the word “gay.”

“Apologies gay community! What was homophobic about that? I said I was guessing he [was] gay which is fine but its nice to [know] what u think of me.”

The rapper wasn’t initally aware that the critic was a girl, which he explained in yet another statement he released once his tweet started to garner attention. He insists he was just being outspoken as usual, and “a little outrageous.” However, he feels that people should be used to this behavior by now and should understand that anything crazy he says or does is simply part of his “character and sense of humor.” Cee Lo also insists that he prides himself on working with all people, no matter their “religious, sexual or political preferences.”

It really doesn’t seem like Cee Lo meant anything by using the word “gay,” but he probably felt obligated to release a statement after seeing all the negative attention other stars have received for making supposed “homophobic” comments. At least he tried hard to make it clear that he accepts anyone and everyone.
