Angels Beat Reporter names Willy Adames as a trade target for the Brewers

Several writers have mentioned Milwaukee Brewers star players as trade candidates this offseason. The main three names that come up are Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Willy Adames.

These players will continue to be mentioned in trade proposals until a trade is completed or a contract extension is signed.

Willy Adames is the most recent player to be mentioned. Sam Blum, the Los Angeles Angels’ beat reporter, mentioned Adames as the top trade target.

Shortstop is an area where the Angels could benefit from an upgrade, so he naturally offered his thoughts on a trade package that he believes would benefit both parties.

Blum had this to say about a trade involving Brewers shortstop Willy Adames.

“Possibly trading Luis Rengifo and packaging a top prospect or two could entice a team to part with a shortstop. Willy Adames is probably the best option for a Brewers team that may or may not be trying to be competitive this year.”

Renfigo, a 25-year-old super utility player, has exhausted his minor league options.

He is a defensively versatile player who can play all over the infield, with the majority of his games last year coming at second base. In a pinch, he can also play corner outfield. In 2022, he was a silver slugger and gold glove finalist among utility players.

Renfigo showed some power at the plate last season, hitting 17 home runs in 511 plate appearances.

He had a.263 batting average while striking out only 15% of the time. He did, however, draw only 17 free passes and had a.294 on-base percentage. His offensive numbers added up to a 103 OPS+.

When it comes to the Angels’ top prospects, two of the top three are catchers. The Brewers just signed William Contreras, so adding another catcher makes no sense. No other prospects in the Angles’ top ten are expected to be major league ready by 2023.

According to Blum, the Brewers may or may not try to compete this year. This is most likely why he suggested trading a top prospect or two for Willy Adames in addition to Renfigo.

However, given that most of the Angels’ top prospects are years away from the big leagues and Renfigo is out of major league options, I’ll pass on this package for Willy Adames.
