Amy Winehouse found dead in her apartment at the age of 27

Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment early Saturday. She was only 27 years old. Police confirmed that the singer was pronounced dead at her home in Camden Square but that the cause of death was not immediately known. Some sources are reporting that police are “operating under the suspicion” that it was an overdose. A post-mortem is scheduled for Monday.

Many stars are reacting to news of Amy’s death, especially over Twitter. Celebs mourned the loss of a friend and a great talent. Kelly Osborne had this to say,

“i cant even breath right my now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!”

Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lily Allen, Nicki Minaj, Usher, and many others all said they would miss the star and wished she was in a better place now. Everyone agreed they were lucky to know her and lamented the loss of someone so talented.

Russell Brand wrote a letter to Amy and posted it on his blog Sunday morning. As a former heroin addict, he understood the struggles Winehouse faced. In his tribute, he made the point that many others are making as well – she joins a group of talented people who have died at a young age. Amy died at the age of 27, as did Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin. Brand is saddened that Winehouse was not able to overcome her addictions.

“Now Amy Winehouse is dead, like many others whose unnecessary deaths have been retrospectively romanticized at 27 years old. Whether this tragedy was preventable or not is now irrelevant. It is not preventable today. We have lost a beautiful and talented woman to this disease.”
