Amy Winehouse to be cremated after her funeral on Tuesday

Amy Winehouse’s family, close friends, and band mates gathered Tuesday for the singer’s funeral. The hour-long service took place in a synagogue in Edgware, North London and was attended by about 150 people. It was partially in Hebrew because of Amy’s Jewish heritage.

Her father Mitch said to everyone,

“Goodnight my angel. Sleep tight. Mommy and Daddy love you ever so much.”

According to a spokesperson for Winehouse, Mitch’s eulogy was also “funny.” He told stories about her childhood and people were laughing as if they remembered everything themselves. The humor fit in well as they meant for the service to both mourn and celebrate Amy’s life.

“It was emotional, it was happy and it was sad. It was everything really.”

At the end, everyone also sang along to Carole King’s “So Far Away,” one of Amy’s favorite songs and one that she once performed as a duet with her dad. They then headed to Golders Green crematorium, where her family is having her cremated. Her grandmother was cremated there and it has become a family tradition.
