3 Stars, Including Taylor Swift, Who Weren’t Cool In School

Taylor Swift is on the cover of the February issue of Vogue and in the cover story she opens up about many aspects of her life, including how she was never popular growing up. She makes middle school sound like one big awkward mess. Her singing hobby was different from the activities everyone else did – instead of going to sleepovers every weekend like most kids, she sang the national anthem at major events. Swift also reveals that gaining weight, trying to deal with frizzy hair, and getting braces all added to her awkwardness when she was younger. To this day, she has her moments when she thinks back about how it feels to be an outsider. She believes “who you are in school really sticks with you.” She never feels like the “cool kid at the party” and sometimes just stands there and smiles because she feels like she wasn’t invited. Taylor only learned to stop caring about being cool when she left school at age 16. At that point, nothing mattered to her but her music career and following the dream she’d always had. She has learned to do what she feels is right, from making music she likes to wearing what she thinks looks good.

Taylor Swift isn’t the only person who suffered through an awkward childhood before achieving worldwide fame. Here are a few other celebrities that were nerds in school.

Megan Fox

Megan Fox says she was never popular in high school. The actress insists she was a “total outcast.” The friends she did have were mostly guys because girls didn’t like her aggressive personality.

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman felt out of place once she hit puberty because she was so much taller than all the other kids and thought she was “the ugliest person alive on earth.” Kidman was also teased for going to theater practice while everyone else was doing other things. She now believes feeling like an outsider is a character builder.
