Anne Hathaway, who plays Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, revealed some new details about the movie. In an interview with the LA Times, Hathaway talks about a scene in which her character intervenes as Bruce Wayne, played by Christian Bale, is taken prisoner by Bane, the bad buy in the film. In addition to revealing some details about the plot, Anne also discusses how she prepared herself for her role and how she spent her time on set during breaks. To prepare to play Catwoman, Anne studied actress Hedy Lamarr, who inspired the original character introduced in 1940. What Hathaway tried her hardest to imitate was Lamarr’s “extraordinary” breathing. Anne says she tried to take the same “long, deep, languid breaths” as the actress. While she was on set, Hathaway passed time by doing crossword puzzles, discussing politics, and impersonating Tina Turner.
Anne Hathaway is the next celebrity in a long line of actresses who have played Catwoman over the years. Here are a few other stars that have played the role in various Batman films.
Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman in 1992 in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. She took martial arts and kickboxing to prepare for the role and did some of her own stunts.
Halle Berry starred in the film Catwoman in 2004, a spinoff about the character originally introduced in the Batman films. The movie was a flop at the box office.
