Zooey Deschanel has previously spoken on how she was bullied in high school and didn’t really enjoy her experience there. Now, the actress has spoken on how she developed from that shy young girl to be rather fearless. She reveals that she always feels like an outsider that no one understands but she is no longer scared of people:

“There were people who were fully participating in high school. Not me. I felt a little bit isolated, like I was observing. I was a very cautious person. I always think my natural state is to feel like an outsider, and I don’t quite relate to anybody. I used to be easily scared; I’m much more fearless now.”

Speaking on style, Zooey says she doesn’t always believe in splashing out on big designer names and thinks style can come from other places like your own creativity and how you put together outfits:

“Style isn’t when you buy yourself the most expensive things, it’s being creative and able to put together what you’ve collected.”

Zooey says that growing up she didn’t have lots of money to spend on clothing but the financial restriction just forced her to get even more creative with her wardrobe:

“I didn’t have a lot of money, so I got things for, like $2, $3, and made myself look as good as I could. Limitations make you more creative.”
