Amanda Seyfried Thought Lovelace Role Would Ruin Her Career

Amanda Seyfried, who plays the role of pornstar actress Linda Lovelace in a new biopic, has admitted that she was certain the role would destroy her career because it was such a risky role. She also felt it was her chance to shine and show her acting skills so she just couldn’t turn down the chance to prove herself:

“I was like, ‘Wow, this is the riskiest thing that’s happening in Hollywood right now.’ The first thing you think about is that it could ruin my career. At the same time I was like: ‘This is my chance to show them, to show the industry, to be recognised.’

Speaking on the sex scenes which are in the film, Amanda says that she wasn’t as concerned about the nudity as she was about the horrible violence as she is beaten by her on-screen husband for the cameras which she admits is very dark:

“It was a risky role to play, I suppose, but the nudity didn’t scare me. I was more afraid of some of the violence and beatings she suffered, but she was a courageous woman and I’ve never been so affected by a role as I was by this. The story of Linda Lovelace’s life is a very dark place to go. We couldn’t show half of what she went through, although our film is still a pretty harrowing experience.”

Amanda also says that the role really opened her up and she found it extremely rewarding as a result:

”In the past, I have had difficulty exposing my sensual side and feeling very shy and awkward about that side of me. But I’ve matured a lot over the last few years and it’s a different world for me now. I think my self-image has improved a lot and I’m more at ease with who I am. But it was the most intense and rewarding experience I’ve ever had on a film.”
