5 Stars Who Aren’t Interested in Fame

There are plenty of people in the world who are desperate to be famous, but these 5 stars aren’t one of them. Even though they’ve all been very successful, they prefer to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible, and want to focus on their careers rather than just being a celebrity. Some say they just want to act or sing and don’t care about being famous, while others aren’t keen on having to cope with the pressures of being in the headlines every day so prefer to keep to themselves.

Adele

Adele doesn’t want to be a celebrity – she just wants to sing: ”I don’t want to be a celebrity, I don’t want to be in people’s faces. I’ve managed to stay out of the public eye, the other day I walked through Trafalgar Square on a Sunday afternoon, a tourist haven. I was a bit worried . . . I was in my pajamas as well because I had been working the day before..[but] nobody recognised me. A couple of people looked round, but . . . like, ‘What would she be doing walking through Trafalgar Square in pajamas?”’

Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse doesn’t know how some young stars cope with the fame and says she is focusing on her career as an actress: “I don’t think I would ever want fame like them (other child stars). I have to say, I think Miley Cyrus is still quite young. She’s what? Seventeen? I think she’s very brave for all that fame to be thrown at her so young. She’s like another Britney Spears. I don’t envy her at all – or any of those girls who get that much attention. I suppose we’re different kinds of actors. I focus on my work. The stuff that comes afterward – the press and premieres – it’s fine, it’s fun… but what I really want to do is work on my acting.”

Rooney Mara

Rooney is only interested in being an actress, and doesn’t care about anything else: “I want to be an actress, I didn’t want to become an actress to become a celebrity at all. I think that actually hurts your ability to be a good actor, the more people know who you are the less able they are to see you as a character.”

Gemma Arterton

Gemma has been tempted by the celebrity aspect of her job before, but feels happier with a focus on just her career: “I think it’s such a massive thing in our culture now, where people just aspire to be famous and don’t reach for pure happiness. I’ve been there, a little bit, and I’ve opted to be happy.”

Audrey Tautou

Audrey believes she would be just as happy if she wasn’t famous: “I didn’t have this vocation to be an actress. That’s my paradox. I like acting, I like playing, trying to disappear into the part but I don’t like to be the centre of attention. I could have been fulfilled even if I worked in the in the shadows. I would never have imagined it to become who I am today.”
