Sharing the spotlight with one sibling or even more must be tough, and there can even be rivalry for the same jobs which puts them in a difficult position. These 5 stars have opened up on how they make it work, avoiding competition and difficult situations, even if the media do try to turn them against each other! Staying supportive of their family members, these stars are happy for their sibling’s success and they even help each other when they can.

Chris and his two brothers Liam and Luke help each other when it comes to work: “We’re competitive as siblings are in everything from sport, to backyard cricket to football to surfing to who’s controlling the remote control when we’re watching TV. This industry? Not so much. Certainly all three of us understand the frailty and inconsistency of the work. We help each other with auditions and always have, with whatever scripts we’re working on. You’re not in direct competition anyway and it’s more of a team effort with this than with anything else.”

Dannii Minogue

Dannii often reads negative stories about her rivalry with sister Kylie but has always ignored them: “All those years of articles, of reading ‘She’s in her sister’s shadow’ or whatever – of course, I see that stuff, but it was never how things really were. My sister and I are really close, and we always have been. What I find a bit sad is that the sibling rivalry story went away only when Kylie was diagnosed with cancer. Then people stood back and thought, this isn’t funny any more, these are real people, there is real love there. It took something like that to stop a joke that wasn’t funny in the first place.”

Elle Fanning

Elle gets advice from her older sister Dakota: “There isn’t, and I hope there never will be [competition between us]. Sometimes she gives me advice. But most of the time it’s just being really proud of me and anything I want to do; she’s totally supportive of it.”

Kate Mara

Kate says it doesn’t get competitive with her sister Rooney: “She and I have never had that sort of competitive thing, thank God, because that would make it so much more difficult. We’re supportive and excited for each other.”

Solange Knowles

Solange is always asked about her sister Beyonce but tries to laugh it off: “I get asked about Beyonce all the time and I make fun of it. Sometimes I say she’s not my sister. Other times I say I stuffed her in my suitcase and sent it to Dubai. I have to have fun with it or I’ll turn into Britney – shave my head and go totally crazy.”
