Most of us have those moments of self-doubt – it’s natural to worry you don’t measure up and it can help you keep a healthy perspective as long as it isn’t a constantly nagging thought. These 5 celebrities have spoken on dealing with their own self-doubt despite being mega famous and already very successful.
Anna thinks self-doubt is very healthy: “I hope I don’t ever get the feeling that I’m the cool girl. I think self-doubt is healthy. It pushes you, and humbles you, and I would really hate to be one of the three people in the f–king universe who are actually well-rounded, because then you can’t relate to anybody else’s inner s–t. Sometimes I meet people who are too confident. I’m like, ‘I don’t even like being around you. You’re boring. Get a neurosis, and then we’ll talk.’”
Rob often doubts his own acting talent: “I still have lots of doubts about myself. The people I work with know this. Three weeks before filming, I just panic and call my family or friends telling them I will never be able to do it… At that moment I really think it is the truth, my confidence leaves me, reduced in tatters. And then it is back when I enter the set. Even knowing this, the next time, it happens again. The people around me don’t even listen to me anymore…”
Gwyneth has become a perfectionist to hide her own self-doubt: “One of my most negative qualities is the perfectionism that I have, and I think that I unconsciously project that because it comes from self-doubt and insecurity and that’s the ironic part. I’m so deeply flawed.”
Megan says self-doubt doesn’t always bother her and she tries to be positive: ”At times. But it’s not part of my daily existence. Meditation is something I do to stay positive. If you stay positive with your mind then inevitably you will attract positivity and the times I’ve faced the most adversity in my life, it wasn’t actually from outside forces. It was things I brought into my own world from my own negativity.”
Nicholas always doubts his career: “I still worry that I’m never going to get another job. Whenever a new film comes out, I always worry that it’s going to be the one people look at and go, ‘Don’t ever hire him again.’”
