5 Actors Who’ve Thought Nude Scenes Were Liberating

While most actors and actresses fear stripping off on camera or don’t look forward to it at the very least, these 5 stars aren’t afraid of showing off their bodies after having liberating experiences while going nude for a film. They felt more accepting of their body following their nude scene and now love to show off their body on camera. While at first some were anxious or worried about going for it or felt they were too old or not good enough, they’ve all taken a leap of faith and been happy with their nude scenes in the end, some even landing Oscar nominations for their performances. It must be hard to bare all, but these fearless stars don’t mind and find the whole experience freeing and even thrilling.

Carey Mulligan

Carey felt going nude was important for her character in ‘Shameless’ and she found that the experience helped her accept her own body: ”I’m often terrified about different aspects of characters I’m playing. With respect to nudity, it was vital to the character in ‘Shame’, who wasn’t supposed to be a very attractive character and needed to be emotionally naked and lost in different ways. This is who she is — a character who can stand fully naked in front of her brother and not feel anything. But doing the nudity for ‘Shame’ was actually very liberating for me and it helped me deal with my own issues with my body.”

Helen Hunt

Helen was at first afraid of stripping off her part in ‘The Sessions’ but she later found it freeing: ”I said to another friend of mine, it’s getting late… who cares? Maybe one of the great things about getting older is, who cares? To get a chance to embody a woman, particularly a woman who’s not 20 years old, and celebrate that we all have bodies and everybody has a god-given right to feel pleasure, I liked being part of bringing that to life.”

Jennifer Aniston

In ‘Wanderlust’ Jennifer let go of her inhibitions and tried not to fuss about showing off her figure: “There was a lot of (nudity). Bottomless, topless… It’s happening… ‘Liberating’ is a good word to use.”

Keira Knightley

Keira has no problem going topless and thinks sex scenes are a blast: “Sex scenes are easy. I don’t really have a problem with them. Actually it was quite liberating in the movie Domino to be out in the middle of the desert completely topless with a beautiful Venezuelan guy (co-star Edgar Ramirez). I was very lucky.”

Mia Wasikowska

Mia was worried about her nude scenes but felt liberated once the cameras started rolling: ”That was the last day of the shoot and I was so angry at them for scheduling it on the last day! We’d been running behind and we only started shooting it at 6pm and shot until 4am but it’s the sort of thing where the anticipation is worse than the actual filming of the scene. It felt like it went quite quickly and was all right and almost liberating to find yourself there, taking off your clothes. It’s not as bad as anticipating it, I think.”
